Steven Suter, VMD, MS, PHD, DACVIM (Oncology) received a BS in Biology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1981. After a 10 year hiatus, he went on to earn an MS in Biochemistry from New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY in 1991. He was accepted into the combined VMD/PhD program at the University of Pennsylvania where he earned his VMD and PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 1995 and 2001, respectively. He subsequently completed a medical oncology residency at UC, Davis and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology) in 2003.
Dr. Suter joined the faculty of NC State University in 2006 and is currently a Professor of Medical Oncology. He founded and ran the worlds only academic canine apheresis and bone marrow transplant unit from 2008-2022, which also supported a unique 2 year Fellowship in canine bone marrow transplantation and apheresis. Dr. Suters laboratory houses the Canine and Feline Molecular Oncology Diagnostic Laboratory which has been in continuous operation since 2007. His research interests center on canine hematologic malignancies, molecular oncology, apheresis, and canine bone marrow transplantation.
Dr. Suter has authored/co-authored over 60 manuscripts and book chapters and is a frequent speaker at local, national and international meetings. He is excited to be a founding member of the Canine Transplant and Apheresis Center here in Chattanooga.
